Quilt Raffle
If you're a person who believes everything happens for a reason, you'll enjoy the story of how this special quilt came to be the first quilt to be raffled for the Georgia Jacobson Memorial Foundation.

A very good friend of Georgia's had pieced together a quilt top for her daughter's baby shower. Not knowing how to actually do the quilting herself... she contacted Carol's Quilting in Sanford, Michigan to see if she would be able to get it quilted in time for the upcoming baby shower. Carol Rose graciously agreed, and the quilt top was delivered to her by Deb so that she could work her magic.
Shortly thereafter, Deb received a call from Carol that the baby quilt was ready. When Deb arrived to pick up the baby quilt, there was another beautiful quilt in her entry way. It was a stunning 68 3/4 X 95 1/2 inch Evening Star Quilt made from Moda marble black, batiks and marbles of blues, greens, reds, yellows, purples and some prints. The fabric is all 100% cotton. The 23 1/2" square evening star blocks consist of 1/2 square triangles of purple & pale yellow print with/setting triangles of marbled black surrounded by 7/8" marbled mauve sashing. Top & bottom have two rows of four 11 3/4" evening star blocks surrounded by 1 3/4" marbled black sashing. Center star block is surrounded by 1 3/4" marbled black sashing with two evening star blocks on each side also with 1 3/4 " marbled black sashing. Commenting on the gorgeous quilt, Deb learned the story of how the "Friend's Who Quilt" club decided to make a quilt and then donate it to a worthy charity. Each of the women in the club (some beginners and some expert) pieced squares to be joined together in anticipation of their generous gift. Once the quilt top was constructed, Carol "brought the quilt to life" with her long arm quilting machine. I label on the back of the quilt reads: Made by Quilting Friends Betty Ann, Carol, Marlene, Karen, Jean, Helen, Karen and Nancy. Machine quilted by Carol Rose.
Deb mentioned Georgia's story... and how the Georgia Jacobson foundation was formed to honor the memory of Georgia and her courageous battle with breast cancer and leukemia. Georgia's dream was to give back, by provide housing assistance to eligible patients and their families while they were battling cancer treatments at the U of M Hospital. One of the fund raisers for the foundation was to be a quilt raffle... but a quilt hadn't actually been donated as of yet. I guess you can say the rest is history. Carol was immediately touched by Georgia's story, and said that she would like to make this quilt the first to be raffled for this generous cause.
